ELIE ZOE’ – Dormant Plants
After the fire of “change my name”, elie zoé calls upon the air in this second excerpt from their upcoming album, set to be released this autumn. “dormant plants” is a tender anthem, shaped for wide open spaces. The artist reminds us once again that they are a gifted melodist, capable of transporting us from the very first notes.“dormant plants” is built on a double movement — inward and outward. While the expansive tones of elie zoé’s piano and Sara Oswald’s cello open onto horizons beyond us, Luc Hess’s drums (Coilguns, Beurre) move forward — inescapable, persistent, grounded in the human scale.
Recorded and mixed by Louis Jucker, and mastered by Johan Meyer, this second track brings together vastly different scales: “earth stars and we are / welded as one.”elie zoé favors sensitivity, inviting us to open our eyes to those meeting points which, though subtle and fleeting, are within reach. The full moon reflecting on the tops of pine trees during a night walk, the rustling of branches — and the boundaries begin to blur. “now with open eyes look it’s a full moon on the pines / the mounds in motion blur the lines.”Some moments hold entire worlds. “dormant plants” reveals the threads that connect all things. elie zoé has relearned how to sing, how to visit places that soothe. Their reclaimed voice offers us a place to “sit and wait”. The paths toward a gentler, more peaceful version of ourselves are like dormant plants, ready to be discovered.

About the video (artist comment):
To make this video for “dormant plants”, we went back at night — with thesame pocket camera — to the exact spot where the “change my name”video ends: by a pond, in the middle of a pine forest in the mountains. It’s this very place that inspired the song — a place where it’s easy to loseany clear sense of scale, and to physically feel that you’re part of the living world. This time, to shoot the single-sequence, we had to walk — because “the mounds in motion blur the line.” In the darkness, shapes become uncertain, and it’s hard to tell where we end and where other beings begin…It felt like a fitting second release to announce the upcoming album, called“shifting forms”! elie zoé
